I took Jasmine Goggin’s Storyboard Revisionist Course through Brainstorm School in the spring of 2024 to learn about storyboarding and the ins and outs of boarding for animated television series. Through the 8 week course, we used Naruto characters to explore figure drawings, expressions and character acting, drawing environments, and studied shot compositions and blocking. We also revised Jasmine’s red line sketches and were able to add our own spins by boarding independently!

The project above had us revise Jasmine’s initial sketches, following her direction faithfully while also drawing the characters in shorthand correctly. After the shot where Naruto admires the screen, however, we were free to board however we liked as long as it followed the script we were given! I added Sasuke getting hit by the ceiling tile while running away. I focused on using camera angles to complement the characters’ emotional states, while also keeping the shot variation interesting.
