3D Game Environments

Marchen Line

I worked as the Environment Artist for Nth Circle’s 2024 Spooktober game submission “Marchen Line”. The rules of the contest were to create a horror game within one month! We submitted an existential horror game/dating sim, which needed several backgrounds with different use cases and moods. I modeled, textured, and lit 10 of the 13 backgrounds used in the game- the time limit was a challenge, but it was so fun to bring to life both the spaceship interiors and the alien base. Below are renders of the spaces, including the final product of the environments within the game. I used a cooler color palette for the space ship interiors to contrast with the warm palette and lighting of the alien base. You can play our game here: https://nthcircle.itch.io/marchenline

The art direction for this game was inspired by 90’s game and anime aesthetics. To achieve that, I lit the scenes while being very conscious of where and when to add shadows, while also adding brighter lighting to create higher contrasts. Scenes modeled and unwrapped in 3DSMax, then textured and lit in Unity. Textures and some props were provided by Unity Asset Store.

Here are in-game screenshots of the final renderings for the game. Final post-processing done by Brian Mullholland.
